Marmosets are also called thumb monkeys (details) because of their small size. They are very agile, especially when they run through the woods and jump freely. They are the smallest monkeys in the world that live in the forests of the Amazon River Basin in South America. This kind of monkey likes to catch lice to eat, and has a gentle personality, so keeping them has become a hobby of the local Indians.
rearing conditions
The area of the marmoset cages is 13~15m2 (1.0~1.3m2/a), and the standard is to accommodate 15~20 pairs of marmosets at the same time. In order to facilitate cleaning, the ground is generally cement or terrazzo, and the room temperature is maintained at 25~30℃ In between, the temperature should not be lower than 20°C throughout the day. Generally, about 25°C is suitable. The indoor temperature should be kept uniform and constant. The smaller the temperature difference, the better, and the relative humidity is 40%~70%. The daily lighting time is 7:30~19:30, during which 8:30~16:30 is full-spectrum sunlight, and the rest of the time uses fluorescent lamps for general lighting (40W), so that diurnal marmosets can adapt to changes in light. To prevent marmosets from being frightened due to sudden changes in light, ventilation is performed 10 to 12 times per hour to promote air exchange, and the noise should not exceed 60dB.
food structure
Feed nutrient-rich liquid feed in the morning, such as granules of milk or milk powder, and feed energy- and protein-rich feed and fruits at noon and afternoon, such as steamed buns, potatoes, sweet potatoes, apples, etc., which are cooked and cut into strips. Animal protein feeds and snacks are given regularly.
feeding time
Feed regularly at 8:00, 11:00, and 16:30 every day, and keep the feed clean and hygienic, free from spoilage, and no insect bites. It is best to use 0.2%~0.3% potassium permanganate solution to disinfect the surface of the fruit given. . The water intake of adult animals is 30~50mL per day, preferably cool boiled water, which should be changed every day to ensure sufficient drinking water and allow them to drink water freely. When feeding, divide the ration into the dry feed tray, and pay attention to fixing the feed tray to avoid the marmosets from overturning and spilling the feed. It should be ensured that the marmoset can eat feed with a small surplus at each meal. If marmosets that do not eat the diet are found, they are fed biscuits or other feeds. When changing the drinking water every day, the remaining water in the drinking fountain is removed and cleaned to prevent the growth of bacteria.
