What is a cavachon?
The Cavachon is a mixed breed dog – a cross between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Bichon Fize breed. Compact, energetic and fun, these puppies inherit some of the best traits from both parents.
What does a cavachon look like?
Since the Cavachon is a relatively new breed, there are few standards when it comes to size. That being said, as a cross between Cavalier King Charles and Bichon Frieze parents, you can expect the Cavaliers to be on the small side.
Most weigh between 15 and 35 pounds and range in height from 12 to 13 inches at the shoulder. That is, many can be smaller or larger.
cavachon living habits
Many Cavachon lovers describe these dogs’ personalities as “happy.” They are as big as regular puppies and love to cuddle or take a nap, just as they love to walk around town and take in the sights. They are easygoing and enjoy it all as long as they are with their favorite person – you!
They’re not overly energetic, but they also don’t sleep all day. Their energy levels are moderate. They don’t bark excessively, but may sound the alarm when guests arrive. Some of their parent knights are described as barking, while others are not. It’s really hard to know until you get to know them to understand which parental traits are dominant.
These dogs are charming and may want to meet everyone who encounters them. If you take them out, allow extra time to meet and say hello.
cavachon rearing
As with all dogs, you should keep up with your Cavachon’s regular veterinary checkups to catch any health problems early. Your veterinarian can help you develop a care routine that will keep your dog healthy.
Cavachons have moderate energy. An hour and a half of walking and some moderate activity should keep your Cavachon happy and excited.
Also, each dog always needs the usual canine care. Check their ears daily for debris and pests, and clean as recommended by your veterinarian. Trim your dog’s nails before they get too long — usually once or twice a month. They shouldn’t hit the floor loudly. Your beautician can help.
When it comes to your Cavachon care, your main concern is maintaining their oral health. You should brush your teeth every day, as small dogs are prone to dental problems. Your veterinarian can instruct you on how to brush your teeth properly.
All dogs must be walked on leash and cavachons, esp. Although they are not high-energy dogs, they may see a bird or other small animal and chase it.
Cavachons do not like to be left alone for long periods of time and may exhibit destructive behavior if isolated. If you plan to cage your puppy, cage training must begin as a puppy.
