MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) – The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley has successfully operated its temporary shelter for approximately one month, and Shelter Director Amy Rogers shared positive updates with WTAP.
During this period, the shelter has assisted four families in providing housing for their beloved pets. The primary purpose of this shelter is to offer a secure and caring environment for animals when their owners encounter temporary situations that prevent them from caring for their pets. Such situations may include hospital stays, escaping abusive relationships, and similar circumstances. Instead of surrendering their pets permanently, owners can temporarily house them at this facility.
Rogers emphasized the importance of this alternative process, noting that it benefits the pets immensely. It allows the animals to eventually return to their familiar owners, homes, and the comforting environments they cherish. Knowing that they are loved and cared for in a place they recognize is a significant comfort for these pets.
At present, the shelter is providing housing for multiple pets while their owners work through various housing challenges, such as those caused by flooding or economic difficulties.
Individuals interested in using the temporary shelter can visit the Humane Society in person or contact them by phone at 740-373-5959.
