Victor Super Premium Dog Food, specifically the Hi-Pro Plus variant, is undergoing a voluntary recall due to potential salmonella contamination. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration warns that salmonella can affect both animals consuming the product and humans handling it.
The affected dog food was packaged in 5-pound bags and distributed to various retailers and distributors across the United States. It encompasses 644 cases identified by lot code 1000016385 and a best-by date of April 30, 2024, with lot code information located on the bag’s rear. This recall is exclusive to this specific product, and no other items are implicated.
The decision to issue a voluntary recall stems from a single sample of Victor Super Premium Dog Food testing positive for salmonella during a random sample test conducted by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture.
Retailers and distributors have been instructed to promptly remove the recalled product from their inventory and store shelves. Pet owners are advised against feeding the recalled product to their pets, as salmonella-infected animals may exhibit lethargy and digestive problems.
If your pet has consumed the recalled product and displays any symptoms, it is recommended to contact your veterinarian. Additionally, individuals who handle the product should be vigilant about their own health and watch for signs such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and fever. Anyone experiencing these symptoms after contact with the product should seek medical attention.
As of now, there have been no reported cases of illness in humans or pets linked to this recalled product. The voluntary recall is being conducted in cooperation with the FDA, and for more information, consumers can contact Mid America Pet Food Consumer Affairs at 1-888-428-7544.
