The Lawrence County Humane Society is continuing a pet food, supplies and monetary drive to commemorate the first anniversary of Robert Webb Sr.’s death on Oct. 30, 2022.
Webb, 68, came out of retirement to work at the shelter for six years.
“We called him the ‘dog daddy,'” said shelter director Margie Seelbaugh. “Even the little ones that wanted to bite everybody loved him.”
As of Wednesday, more than $500 had been donated in addition to food and supplies for the first of what will be an annual Bob Webb fundraiser.
“We were in tears,” Seelbaugh said. “We were very amazed at the community’s support in Bob’s memory.”
Donations of dog or cat food, treats, kitty litter, toys, cleaning supplies and money can be dropped off between noon and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at the shelter, 628 Pearson Mill Road, New Castle.
Monetary donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 62, New Castle, Pa., 16101, or made online at lawrencecountyhumane.com. Donors are asked to indicate that donations are made in memory of Webb.
The shelter is full, Seelbaugh said. It can hold 22 dogs and has 23, and can hold 30 cats and has 33.
“We’ve shut down intake for a while and can’t take owner surrenders, just what the police and the dog warden bring in and emergency situations,” she said.
