EVANSVILLE, Ind.(WFIE) – Hundreds of pet owners took over the Washington Square Mall over the weekend for VHS’s annual Pet Photo with Santa event.
Now in its 37th year, the shelter has helped families include furry friends in holiday card photos, and the lines stretched almost to the mall entrance.
Some pet owners dress their pets up for the occasion, while others dress to match their pets.
VHS Events and Outreach Coordinator Mackenzee McKittrick said it’s not just the dogs that come to see Santa.
“We love seeing all the different pets,” McKittrick said. “We have mice and bearded dragons. Yesterday we had two goats, dogs and cats, you name it. The owners have been very creative and made it festive and brought their animals out, so we really love to see it.”
While officials have not released the total amount raised by the event to support the humane society, Mckittrick said more than 130 families showed up with their furry friends on Saturday alone.
