ADAMS COUNTY, Pa.(WHP) – The Adams County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has confirmed a case of rabies in the East Berlin area.
Officials report that a resident found a dead skunk lying with her unvaccinated outdoor dog and its nine two-week-old puppies.
The skunk tested positive for rabies at the Pennsylvania Veterinary Laboratory on November 2. The affected area is between Pondtown Road and Lake Meade Road in Latimore Township.
Rabies kills about 59,000 people worldwide each year, according to the SPCA.
Anyone who has been exposed to wild, stray or unfamiliar animals should call the rabies hotline.
