One of the major trends in animal shelters and humane societies nationwide is understanding the reasons behind pet surrenders and providing assistance to help individuals keep their beloved pets.
As part of this ongoing effort, the Saipan Humane Society is pleased to announce a successful food distribution event to assist pet owners on Tinian and Rota, sponsored by Veterinarians Without Borders.
The event was made possible by the generous support of several organizations and dedicated individuals. The pet food, which proved to be a lifeline for many pet owners, was shipped to Rota and Tinian by U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia-Sector Guam. On Guam, the food was purchased and prepared by Guam Animals In Need and the Boonie Flight Project.
On Tinian, the event was coordinated by Saipan Cares for Animals Tinian Branch, with special thanks to Miho Evangelista for her invaluable contributions.
Through the combined efforts of these organizations, more than 100 pet owners were provided with free pet food during the distribution event. This assistance eased the financial burden many pet owners face when trying to provide for their furry family members, ensuring that pets and their owners can continue to enjoy their special bond.
Building on this trend, the Saipan Humane Society is now considering the establishment of a pet food pantry to further support the local pet community. Although the pantry has not yet been formally established, the organization encourages everyone to keep an eye on their social media channels for updates on when future food distributions will take place.
This initiative exemplifies the power of community and collaboration to positively impact the lives of both pets and their loving owners. By addressing the needs of pet owners and their pets, we hope to reduce pet surrenders and promote pet welfare in our community.
