The facility is spread over an area of 700 sqm on a 4-acre kennel in Dwarka Sector 29 of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
Delhi’s first municipal pet crematorium has started operations and may be inaugurated soon, officials associated with the project said on Monday.
Named ‘Furry Friends Forever’, the facility is spread over 700 square meters at the four-acre dog complex in Dwarka Sector 29 of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), where a neutering center is already operational. The crematorium has two CNG furnaces and the cremation fee ranges from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000, depending on the weight of the animal, officials said.
The facility also offers condolences, powwows, ambulance services, and a memorial garden where pet parents can place ashes in biodegradable urns and plant a tree in their pet’s name.
While initially the company planned to build a dog-only crematorium, the project has since been expanded to include other small animals such as cats, goats, sheep and monkeys.
There will be a green belt around the perimeter of the crematorium, as well as an ash storage facility and a prayer room with a chaplain. A senior city government official said a bathing facility has also been designated to provide ablution services before cremation and a priest will be entrusted to conduct the ceremony.
The long-delayed project, initially mooted by the erstwhile South MCD in 2018, is being executed on a public-private partnership model, with the entire construction, maintenance and upkeep costs of the crematorium being borne by NGO Green Revolution.
