Only 6% of stolen animals in London have been recovered so far this year, according to Metropolitan Police figures. Figures from the Metropolitan Police show.
Figures to the end of November show 654 animals had been stolen.
Dogs are the most common victims, with 335 dogs stolen so far this year. Other pets, including cats, fish and birds, were also taken away.
The Metropolitan Police encourage owners to have their pets microchipped wherever possible and to report all thefts.
It also advises against leaving pets unattended in the garden.

Figures show Hounslow has seen the highest number of thefts this year, with 93 animals stolen between January and November, including 50 birds stolen in October.
