The shih tzu is an old-fashioned toy dog with a smaller size and attachment to its owner. Shih Tzu likes to communicate with people, strong attachment and tolerance, self-confidence, smart, friendly to children and animals, suitable for both urban and rural life. However, the coat must be groomed every day, and the long hair on the head must be tied at least when feeding. With good feeding and management, they can live for more than 15 years.
How to groom a Shih Tzu at home, just 4 Steps
Step 1. Shaving and clipping repairs:
- Mao, like the VIP, tick the anus (No. 10). The topline, from the occipital bone (No. 7), is cut along the hair, and the chest and abdomen are completely cut. The base of the tail is slightly tickled. Head: When shaving the snout, use the electric scissors with the right hand and the dog’s mouth with the left hand; shave from the tip of the eyebrow to the tip of the nose, the cheek, the outer corner of the eye to the base of the ear, and the neck to the position 1-2 fingers below the Adam’s apple.
- Because the Shih Tzu has a longer body structure, the waistline generally needs to go to the premise. The rear line is an inverted “U” shape.
- The body is cut into a cylinder without a waist, and the sternum must exceed the elbow, so that it cannot make people feel that its legs are long.
- The forelimbs are made into cylinders, but the upper carpal bones should be prominent.
- Grasp the lines of the feet, the same as the distinguished guests.
- The line of the legs is the same as the VIP. When trimming, the scissors cannot cut horizontally.
- The entire face is rounded, the hair under the eyes is slightly trimmed, and the hair on the head is combed forward. Center the circle on the top of the nose. When trimming, pay special attention to the length of the hair when the eyes are open and when the eyes are closed. When grooming the head, the groomer must face the dog. Finally trim the edges with tooth scissors.
- The tail can be trimmed in proportion to the head.
Step 2. Cleaning:
Before washing, clean the ears and nails, and shave the soles of the feet and abdomen.
- Dilute the pet bath with a little water, and control the water temperature at 35°-38°;
- When showering, the forebody should be wetted first, and then rinsed from front to back. Then apply the diluted bath liquid to the head and body, rub gently along the head to the back, abdomen and limbs, do not let the bath liquid flow into the eyes;
- Gently squeeze the anal glands with the thumb and index finger to clean the anal glands;
- After rubbing, wash the whole body with water and apply hair conditioner to it, and then rinse thoroughly. Be careful not to get foam on the nose when bathing, because the Shih Tzu’s nasal cavity is short, which may cause suffocation.
Step 3. Hair dryer:
Long hair should be blown along the hair, but because it is cut short, it should be blown in the opposite direction and combed against the hair.
- Wrap the body with a bath towel and move it to the table to dry the water;
- Dry the remaining water with a hair dryer, starting from the head, with a brush on one side, to straighten each part little by little until the roots of the hair are completely dry;
- After blowing, use a straight comb to comb the whole body hair again to see if there are knots or hair that is not straightened.
Step 4. Carding:
- Make the Shih Tzu stand on the grooming table in the correct posture, and use a needle brush to comb slowly from the hindquarters to the front in the opposite direction;
- Comb the head;
- Finally brush the tail.
