In an effort to uphold cleanliness and hygiene standards in public spaces, the City Council of Vélez-Málaga is gearing up to enforce fines for individuals found in violation of regulations pertaining to pet waste. Rocío Ruiz, the Environmental Councillor, made the announcement following a two-week informational campaign conducted in collaboration with the cleaning service provider, Althenia, operating under the slogan ‘You’d clean it at home… Our streets are your home.’ Those failing to comply with the regulations will now face penalties.
Transitioning from Information to Enforcement
Over a span of ten days, a mobile team extensively covered the area, educating local residents on the importance of responsible pet waste management. Ruiz stated that the informational phase has successfully concluded, underscoring the shift towards penalties for those neglecting their duty to manage their pets’ needs responsibly. The initiative reached diverse population centers, actively engaging with 2,175 residents and distributing 1,000 informative brochures, waste bags, and bottles for pet urine cleanup.
