Huron County has reaffirmed its dedication to the safety and well-being of stray pets within its jurisdiction by extending its contract with Thumb Animal Shelter. During the board of commissioners meeting on Tuesday, the chairman and the board approved a three-year contract, marking the third extension of the partnership between the county and the shelter.
The initial contract, established in 2012, laid the foundation for collaboration, and the most recent renewal in the spring of 2021 was initially set for three years. The current extension ensures the continued provision of shelter services for stray animals in the region until the agreement’s next review in 2027.
Thumb Animal Shelter, situated in Elkton and under the ownership of Deen Forester since its inception in 1996, has been a vital partner in addressing the needs of stray animals. The shelter’s commitment to animal welfare aligns with the county’s vision, leading to the ongoing collaboration.
Deen Forester, who continues to manage the shelter, has been at the forefront of providing essential services for animals and pets in the Thumb region. The enduring partnership between the county and Thumb Animal Shelter reflects a shared commitment to creating a safe and secure environment for stray animals.
The three-year contract extension signifies the mutual determination of both the county and the shelter to sustain their partnership and further contribute to the welfare of stray animals in the community. As the collaboration persists, the focus remains on ensuring that stray pets receive the care and attention they deserve, solidifying the county’s role in promoting responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.
