Sunil Bhalla, Chief Executive Officer of Horsham Rural City Council, is reminding residents to promptly settle their yearly domestic animal registration fees. According to Bhalla, it is mandatory for all dogs and cats to be registered with the council and for fees to be paid by April 10th each year.
“Registering and microchipping your animals is an essential aspect of responsible pet ownership,” emphasized Mr. Bhalla. “Ensuring your pets are registered enables swift identification and safe return home in case they go missing, are stolen, or stray.”
He further highlighted the importance of the registration fee, stating that it contributes to covering the expenses associated with caring for lost animals and facilitating their reunion with their owners. “Last year alone, we facilitated the safe return of 64 cats and 205 dogs to their respective families,” Bhalla added.
Under the regulations stipulated in the Domestic Animals Act 1994, dog and cat owners are required to microchip and register their pets once they reach three months of age or older, in accordance with the guidelines set by their local council.
“We have recently dispatched 5,581 renewal notices for animal registrations, with the deadline set for April 10th,” Bhalla informed.
