Councillors have given the green light to plans for a new cattery and pet crematorium to be situated adjacent to each other, behind Magnolia House in Old Oundle Road, Thornhaugh, near Peterborough.
The decision comes following a proposal brought forth by planning agents during a committee meeting on Tuesday. John Dickie, representing the application, emphasized to the committee that the co-location of these facilities is not as uncommon as one might presume. He argued that these businesses complement each other, serving the same clientele in different capacities.
Dickie stated, “The two businesses, in fact, are perfectly suited to operate side-by-side as in most instances they’ll be helping the same customers, just in different circumstances. Most people who have cats or dogs trust kennels to look after their pets. Who better to offer a first class and compassionate service when the sad time comes?”
The application underwent scrutiny by Peterborough City Council’s planning committee due to its involvement in building within open countryside, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
Planning officers highlighted that the proposal aligns with local demand, signaling a positive step toward meeting the needs of pet owners in the area.
Applicants L. Clipsham and S. Fox received unanimous support from the committee for their proposal, indicating a consensus among councillors regarding the benefits and appropriateness of the project.
