Several esteemed brands within the pet industry have garnered recognition in Newsweek’s prestigious 2024 America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity list.
Among the notable pet food brands acknowledged are Mars, the parent company of Mars Petcare; Simmons, parent company of Simmons Pet Foods; General Mills, overseeing Blue Buffalo; and Colgate-Palmolive, which owns Hill’s Pet Nutrition. The comprehensive list of recognized pet industry brands is outlined below.
For the second consecutive year, Newsweek partnered with market data research firm Plant-A Insights Group to curate the list, spotlighting both large-scale corporations (with over 5,000 employees) and mid-sized enterprises (between 1,000 and 5,000 employees). Nancy Cooper, global editor in chief of Newsweek, emphasized that the selected companies were lauded by their employees for their genuine commitment to respecting and embracing individuals from diverse backgrounds.
“Our meticulous scoring methodology encompassed an exhaustive analysis of publicly available data, consultations with human resources experts, and an anonymous online survey targeting a diverse pool of employees across U.S. companies,” articulated Cooper. “Respondents provided valuable insights into corporate ethos, work environments, and other facets of their respective companies and those they were familiar with, culminating in over 1.5 million company evaluations.”
According to the Petfood Industry’s Top Pet Food Companies list:
Mars Petcare stands out as the global leader in pet food, boasting an impressive portfolio of nearly 50 pet food brands, including five billion-dollar brands.
Hill’s Pet Nutrition, a subsidiary of Colgate-Palmolive, offers over 300 products, primarily distributed through authorized pet supply retailers and veterinary channels across more than 80 countries worldwide.
General Mills made significant inroads into the pet food market in 2018 through the acquisition of Blue Buffalo, whose production occurs in the U.S. via a combination of owned and contracted facilities.
Simmons Pet Foods commands a prominent position as the premier North American private-label and contract manufacturer of wet pet food.
Cooper underscored the correlation between diversity-centric corporate cultures and enhanced employee attraction and retention. “Job seekers, particularly younger demographics, prioritize employers that champion diversity and inclusion,” she remarked. “Employees are inclined to remain loyal to organizations fostering inclusive environments where every individual feels esteemed, thereby bolstering job satisfaction levels and diminishing turnover rates.”
