Green Boy, a renowned provider of plant-based non-GMO and organic food ingredients, marked its expansion into the pet food industry on April 1st with the inauguration of a dedicated plant-based pet food division. This move aims to extend its global reach by offering premium plant-based pet food ingredients to pet food manufacturers worldwide, with a focus on supplying essential components such as starches, sweeteners, proteins, and fibers.
Peter van Dijken, Co-founder and Owner of Green Boy, emphasized the company’s commitment to driving the transition from animal-based to plant-based food products. “Green Boy has long championed the advancement of plant-based food solutions,” he stated. “Our foray into the pet food market aligns seamlessly with our mission to reduce reliance on meat, fish, and dairy. Leveraging our expertise in supplying ingredients to the food industry over the past eight years, this expansion signifies a natural progression for us.”
Echoing this sentiment, Frederik Otten, Co-founder and Owner, underscored the strategic significance of entering the pet food sector. “The pet food market presents a compelling opportunity for Green Boy,” Otten remarked. “With projected sales expected to reach approximately US$60 billion in 2024, accompanied by a steady annual growth rate of 6%, we recognize the potential to leverage our extensive customer network. Many of the major brands we serve in the food industry also have a significant presence in pet food, paving the way for synergies and value creation.”
Jeroen van den Heuvel, Managing Director of Green Boy, outlined the geographic focus and strategic approach of the new pet food division. “Our entry into the pet food market will primarily target premium segments in North America, Europe, and Oceania,” van den Heuvel stated. “This strategic expansion aligns with Green Boy’s overarching growth and sustainability strategy. By offering plant-based alternatives to traditional animal proteins, we aim to address the prevailing reliance on animal-derived ingredients in pet food production. Our portfolio will encompass a diverse range of high-quality plant-based ingredients suitable for both dry and wet pet food formulations, catering to the evolving needs of this dynamic market.”
Since its establishment in 2016, Green Boy has established a global presence, with offices in key locations including Los Angeles, Chicago, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, and Sydney. This latest venture into the pet food industry underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability in the realm of plant-based nutrition.
