Dallas Animal Services (DAS) is marking National Pet ID Week from April 17 to April 23 with a significant gesture: the unveiling of a state-of-the-art ID tag machine generously donated by Friends of Dallas Animal Services. As part of this initiative, every pet adopted or fostered from DAS will receive a complimentary custom ID tag.
In alignment with the spirit of the week, DAS is urging pet owners to ensure their furry companions wear collars equipped with ID tags at all times. Additionally, DAS provides microchips, offering a permanent identification solution, available for $10 by appointment at BeDallas90.org.
The importance of ID tags cannot be overstated, as they play a pivotal role in expediting the reunion process for lost pets, oftentimes obviating the need to bring the animal to the shelter. Complementing this, microchips serve as a secondary layer of identification, enhancing security and augmenting the likelihood of reuniting pets with their owners, particularly if they find themselves at a shelter without an ID tag.
In furtherance of their commitment to pet welfare, DAS ensures that adopted pets are equipped for a successful transition into their new homes. This includes services such as spay/neuter procedures, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchip implantation with accompanying tags, collars, leashes, and a complimentary wellness examination at VCA Animal Hospitals, valid for 14 days post-adoption. Moreover, DAS offers a week of virtual 1-on-1 dog training through the Good Pup app, along with vouchers for Petco and other giveaways, underscoring their dedication to comprehensive pet care.
