Animal Allies, a prominent shelter in Northland, is orchestrating a special promotion aimed at uniting pets with potential owners through a discounted adoption program.
The initiative, spearheaded by Animal Allies, entails a noteworthy 50 percent discount on dogs aged one year and older. As conveyed by authorities at Animal Allies, the shelter currently accommodates 20 dogs, with the capacity to cater to up to 27.
Nicole Facciotto, serving as the Adoption Program Manager at Animal Allies, elucidates that senior dogs constitute one of the more challenging demographics to place in adoptive homes. “People may have acquired them as puppies, underestimating the commitment involved,” Facciotto remarked. “As they mature, the associated expenses escalate.”
In light of an influx of canine arrivals and a discernible delay in their adoption rates, the shelter has instituted this sale, as noted by Facciotto. “We frequently observe instances of kennel aggression, anxiety, and reactivity,” she continued. “The dynamics shift considerably once they are out of their kennels.”
Abby Voss, an Adoption Counselor at Animal Allies, underscores the stress experienced by older dogs within shelter environments and underscores the efficacy of the discount in expediting their adoption. “They are the ones in dire need of assistance,” Voss emphasized. “They tend to linger in our care longer than their younger counterparts.”
Facciotto further elaborates that post-adoption, pet owners receive comprehensive resources to ensure the well-being of their newfound companions. “They undergo all necessary vaccinations, are spayed or neutered, and are microchipped,” she affirmed. “It serves as a robust foundation for prospective pet owners, facilitating a seamless transition into pet ownership.”
According to Animal Allies, the promotion has thus far culminated in the adoption of 10 dogs, attributable to its resounding success. Consequently, the sale has been extended until Sunday, April 28th, in response to the early triumph.
