In a bid to provide greater ease and flexibility to pet owners intending to travel with their beloved companions, Akasa Air has announced significant enhancements to its ‘Pets on Akasa’ policy. The airline has raised the weight limit for pets traveling in passenger cabins, including their containers, from 7 kg to 10 kg.
This update in the airline’s pet transportation policy stems from a culmination of customer feedback, demonstrating Akasa Air’s commitment to listening and responding to the needs of its clientele. Notably, the validity of travel certificates for pets has been extended from three days to 15 days, affording travelers more flexibility, particularly for those with plans of early returns. However, passengers embarking on journeys exceeding 15 days will be required to obtain a new certificate.
Moreover, Akasa Air has expanded its accommodations for larger pets. Animals surpassing the 10 kg threshold can now comfortably journey in the cargo hold, with a weight limit set at 32 kg.
In collaboration with the Umeed for Animals Foundation, Akasa Air has instituted a series of best practices aimed at ensuring optimal conditions for pet travel. As part of this initiative, pet owners can avail themselves of several complimentary value-added services, including priority baggage delivery, priority boarding, and the option to pre-book window seats. Additionally, the airline has invested significantly in comprehensive training programs for its customer care, in-flight, and ground staff, prioritizing the comfort and safety of both passengers and their furry companions throughout the entirety of their journey.
Since its inception in November 2022, Akasa Air’s ‘Pets on Akasa’ policy has garnered substantial traction, having facilitated the travel of over 3,200 pets. This policy, applicable exclusively to pets aged three months or older, permits passengers to fly alongside their dogs and cats on domestic routes spanning 22 cities. Commencing operations in August 2022, Akasa Air offers connectivity to numerous prominent tier-I and tier-II cities, including Delhi, Chennai, Ayodhya, Port Blair, Agartala, Lucknow, Goa, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Doha, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and others.
While Akasa Air stands at the forefront of pet-friendly air travel, other airlines such as SpiceJet and Air India also extend provisions for transporting pets on their flights. While SpiceJet facilitates pet transportation in the cargo hold, Air India allows pets to accompany passengers in the passenger cabin. Furthermore, Air India Express permits travelers to journey with service animals, further broadening the scope of inclusive travel options.
For travelers seeking unparalleled experiences for themselves and their pets, Akasa Air’s revamped ‘Pets on Akasa’ policy sets a new standard in pet-friendly air travel, reaffirming the airline’s commitment to providing unparalleled convenience and comfort to all passengers, including their cherished furry companions.
