Dog walkers in Cornwall have been cautioned about the presence of adders at Kit Hill, a popular beauty spot. The Callington-based Calweton Veterinary Group took to social media to share a photograph of the venomous snake spotted at the location by one of its vets.
In a Facebook post, the veterinary group urged dog owners to exercise caution, emphasizing that adders may react defensively if disturbed and can deliver painful bites. They advised immediate veterinary attention in case of a snakebite incident involving a dog.
“With adders emerging from hibernation and basking in the sun, it’s crucial for dog owners to remain vigilant,” the post highlighted.
Furthermore, the post recommended that if a dog is bitten, owners should carry their pet to prevent the venom from spreading further. Cold water can be used to bathe the wound, while keeping the dog warm and calm is essential to mitigate the venom’s effects.
The timely warning serves as a reminder for dog owners to be mindful of potential hazards during outdoor activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of their beloved pets.
