After nearly two decades of service, Cleary’s Animal World, a cherished pet food shop in New Ross, is preparing for a transition. The store, nestled in the Lidl car park, has been a staple for pet owners since its inception, founded by the late Pat Cleary in 2005.
Originally situated on North Street, the business underwent a significant shift seven years into its operation, relocating to its current spot in the Lidl car park. Laura Cleary, Pat’s daughter and a key figure in the business, expressed gratitude for the loyal clientele that contributed to the growth and success of Cleary’s Animal World over the years.
Cleary’s Pet World has catered to a diverse range of pet needs, boasting an extensive inventory ranging from wild bird seed to essentials for cats, hamsters, and dogs. Despite initial plans for closure in 2021, Laura Cleary made the decision to extend operations for an additional three years, a testament to the dedication and commitment of the Cleary family and their team.
In reflecting on the journey of Cleary’s Animal World, Laura Cleary emphasized the profound impact the business has had on the community. “We want to thank everyone who has stuck with us through the change of premises and management,” she remarked. “North Street was small, then we came here where we extended the shop twice. My parents, I, and the team gave everything to the business, and we still have people coming in talking about my Dad, so it’s more than just a shop.”
Throughout the challenges posed by the pandemic, Cleary’s Animal World remained steadfast in its service to pet owners, playing a crucial role in supplying essentials for rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, and other beloved companions.
As Cleary’s Animal World prepares to embark on this new chapter under new ownership, the legacy of Pat Cleary and the enduring spirit of community support will undoubtedly continue to resonate within the walls of this cherished establishment.
