A dispute is brewing in Chariton as town officials clash with a resident over her beloved goose, Blue, whom she considers an emotional support animal. Angel Queener, the owner, is fervently defending her feathered companion against a town ordinance banning such birds.
Having welcomed Blue into her life approximately 14 months ago, Queener finds herself entangled in a legal quagmire as Chariton’s ordinance explicitly prohibits geese within its limits, as reported by KCCI.
Queener, a recovering addict, staunchly maintains that Blue is indispensable for her emotional well-being, citing a myriad of conditions including PTSD, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and others. “He’s the light of my day,” she expressed tearfully to KCCI, emphasizing the profound impact Blue has had on her life.
Asserting Blue’s role in her sobriety and mental stability, Queener is adamantly pursuing official recognition of him as an emotional support animal. “Once I got Blue, he saved me,” she revealed, highlighting the transformative effect her goose has had on her struggles.
Despite facing potential eviction from her hometown, Queener adamantly refuses to part ways with Blue, asserting, “I would sell my house and move. I can’t get rid of him.”
The clash stems from the Chariton municipal code’s prohibition against raising geese as livestock, a regulation that directly conflicts with Queener’s emotional attachment to Blue, as detailed by KCCI.
As the dispute continues to unfold, Chariton City Hall has yet to reach a final decision regarding Queener’s impassioned plea to retain custody of Blue, leaving the outcome of this emotional tug-of-war uncertain.
