On May 26, the residents of Elliot Lake will have a chance to partake in a significant event aimed at providing assistance to Canadians awaiting a match with a Dog Guide, offering both upliftment and essential aid.
The Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides (LFCDG), an accredited organization, depends on the forthcoming fundraising initiative, the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides, to empower individuals living with disabilities or those supported by agencies catering to individuals who have undergone trauma. This event serves the crucial purpose of furnishing Dog Guides at no charge and supporting the recipients in their journey together.
Travis Forbes, the manager of events at LFCDG, highlighted the growing need for such services, stating, “In 2017, approximately 6.2 million Canadians were living with a disability. Fast forward to 2022, and the disability rate has grown significantly, with 8 million people living with a disability – and we expect that number to continue to increase as our population ages.”
Forbes emphasized the demand for Dog Guides, pointing out that these invaluable companions are not provided by the government but rather by organizations like LFCDG, a non-profit entity. Despite each Dog Guide costing $35,000, LFCDG ensures they are available at no cost to the recipients. To sustain their mission of transforming lives by matching individuals with Dog Guides across seven different programs, LFCDG appeals to the public to participate in their fundraising event and help achieve the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides’ target of $1.6 million.
Grateful for the support of national sponsor Pet Valu and the Elliot Lake Lions Club, LFCDG ensures that all proceeds from the event will contribute to assisting more individuals in receiving a Dog Guide at no expense. The success of the Pet Valu Walks for Dog Guides is crucial for LFCDG to continue making a meaningful impact on the lives of Canadians.
