Hamilton, New Zealand (May 28, 2024) – The SPCA, which cares for more than 30,000 animals annually, has been nurturing numerous animals in need, including those who are sick, vulnerable, injured, or abused. At its Hamilton centre alone, nearly 300 animals receive care, including a remarkable 4-month-old puppy named Chase.
Chase was discovered abandoned under a bush in the Hamilton area by a concerned citizen. The young puppy, estimated to be only 6 or 7 weeks old at the time, was severely underweight and infested with worms. Upon further inspection, it was revealed that Chase was not alone; he was found with his two brothers, Miles and Snoopy, both in similarly dire conditions. Each puppy weighed a mere 2kg upon their arrival at the centre.
After spending over two months under the attentive care of the SPCA Hamilton staff, Chase is now ready to find his “fur-ever” home. Senior canine attendant Steph Swney noted Chase’s significant progress since his arrival.
“He’s a real fun and good dog, very tolerant and … he loves to play with people and other dogs. I think he would be a good family dog, he’s just very sweet,” Swney said. “He can be quite nervous and jumpy around loud noises, but he’s really receptive to getting over something and won’t just cower away.”
Chase has also been learning essential doggy skills from his three-legged female puppy roommate, Trilly.
Centre manager Kyla Robb highlighted the powerful transformation Chase has undergone.
“He looks … nothing like what he did when he first came in,” Robb shared. “He’s completed his full vaccination course, received regular flea and worm treatments to keep him healthy, he’s putting on great weight and is growing up so fast. He is a sweet and inquisitive boy, very expressive with his ears, and has really come out of his shell since he was brought in.”
Robb added, “With lots of love and socialisation, this handsome boy will continue to grow into the best boy we know he can be.”
As Chase awaits his new family, the SPCA Hamilton centre continues its mission to provide care and support to animals in need, advocating for their well-being and helping them find loving homes.
