The Saipan Humane Society, after years of dedicated service to over 5,000 pets without a permanent home, has proudly inaugurated its own facility in Garapan. The long-awaited soft opening occurred at the corner of Angaha Street and Alaihai Avenue, adjacent to Salt & Barber Saipan.
The newly established center boasts a range of amenities, including a reception area, two segregated waiting rooms—differentiating between regular visits and those for sick pets to prevent cross-contamination—two examination rooms, a food pantry, a staff room, and an almost completed surgical room.
In a recent interview with the founders of the Saipan Humane Society, Lauren Cabrera and Ruby Ma, they expressed gratitude for their previous collaboration with the Saipan Mayor’s Office Dog Control Program in As Perdido while emphasizing the significance of their expanded space.
Cabrera acknowledged the support received from the Dog Control Program but highlighted the pressing need for more space to accommodate their growing operations. Both founders emphasized the enduring partnership with the Dog Control Program, citing ongoing assistance in animal restraint, registration, and other essential services.
The pivotal role played by the Banfield Foundation in securing the new location was underscored by Ma, who emphasized their sponsorship of not only the rent but also medical supplies, contributing to the organization’s sustainability and enhanced community service provision.
Despite current operational constraints, the facility is operational four days a week, with plans to expand service hours as staffing increases. Appointments can be made through the organization’s website or social media platforms.
Services currently offered include wellness visits, vaccinations, parasite control, physical examinations, and consultations. Exciting developments lie ahead, with scheduled visits from Banfield Foundation teams in the coming months, alongside plans for community outreach initiatives such as trap, neuter, and release campaigns.
Looking ahead, the Saipan Humane Society aims to extend its services to neighboring islands and is actively exploring partnerships to facilitate this expansion. An official grand opening is anticipated in the coming months, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s journey to furthering animal welfare in the CNMI community.
