The Arizona Humane Society (AHS) has been granted $20,000 by Petco Love, a nonprofit organization, in recognition of its steadfast dedication to providing critical care for sick, injured, and lost pets awaiting reunification with their owners.
In an announcement made on Monday, AHS expressed gratitude for the generous grant from Petco Love, emphasizing its pivotal role in covering essential expenses such as food and medical treatment for lost pets under its care.
Francisco Cabello, Director of Animal Assistance & Transport Programs at AHS, underscored the significance of Petco Love’s contribution, stating, “Not only does this generous, lifesaving investment from Petco Love allow AHS the opportunity to make more families whole again by reuniting them with their four-legged companions, but it also allows us to continue to care for even more sick, injured, and abused pets that come through our doors each and every day.”
Highlighting the impact of AHS’s Pet Reunite Program, which successfully reconnected over 600 lost pets with their families last year, the organization reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating such reunifications with the newfound support from Petco Love.
The grant will enable AHS to extend its compassionate care to animals like Skylar, a stray cat discovered after more than a decade of being lost. Skylar, found with matted fur and evidence of having endured life on the streets, was brought to an emergency animal clinic before being transferred to the Arizona Humane Society.
Upon scanning his microchip, AHS identified Skylar’s owner, Monica, who revealed that the feline had gone missing in 2009. Monica wasted no time and promptly reunited with her long-lost companion at the Papago Campus of AHS.
“Reuniting sick and injured lost pets with their owners is always step one and the best outcome in our effort to help both pets and people,” emphasized Cabello, reflecting on the heartwarming reunion of Skylar and Monica.
The grant from Petco Love stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts between organizations dedicated to safeguarding the well-being of animals and fostering meaningful connections between pets and their human companions.
