June 4 marks one of the most tender occasions on the cat calendar: “Hug Your Cat Day.” For many cat lovers, though, every day is a perfect day to embrace their feline friends. This special day also serves as a reminder that June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, a time when many rescue organizations offer free or discounted adoptions to encourage the placement of cats in loving homes.
Pasadena Humane is actively participating in this initiative, focusing on finding homes for adult cats—those six months and older—throughout June. This effort is especially important as it coincides with “Kitten Season,” when the number of newborn kittens surges, often overshadowing older cats who also need homes.
“Adult cats can struggle to attract adopters’ attention when competing with numerous adorable, fluffy kittens,” explains Dia DuVernet, President & CEO of Pasadena Humane. “However, the benefits of adopting an adult cat are numerous; they require less management, are usually much calmer, and we often have extensive information about them, making their transition to a new home easier.”
This June promotion is made possible by donor Lyn Spector. To ease the adoption process, all cats available at Pasadena Humane are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and have received age-appropriate vaccinations.
As we celebrate “Hug Your Cat Day” at the start of Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, the two observances are delightfully interconnected. If you’re looking to add a playful companion to your life, consider adopting an adult cat—a first sweet step toward a future filled with countless cuddles.
