As the 4th of July approaches, Santa Barbara County Animal Services is preparing to ensure the safety of pets amidst the celebratory fireworks by offering pet crates for loan.
Sarah Aguilar, Director of Santa Barbara County Animal Services, emphasized the potential distress loud noises can cause pets, leading them to attempt escape. Aguilar pointed out that even typically calm dogs may react by breaking through windows or doors in panic.
“A crate provides an additional layer of security to keep them contained,” Aguilar advised.
Beginning Monday, June 24, pet owners can obtain crates at 548 West Foster Rd. in Santa Maria. Aguilar also suggested consulting with veterinarians about potentially prescribing sedatives for pets and ensuring pets are equipped with identification tags and microchips.
Additionally, Santa Barbara County Animal Services offers complimentary collars, leashes, and ID tags at their shelter.
This initiative aims to mitigate the stress and potential hazards pets face during Independence Day celebrations, underscoring the importance of proactive measures to safeguard pets’ well-being.
