Swift Current’s animal shelter is taking proactive steps to ensure pet owners are prepared in case their beloved pets go missing, by hosting a microchip clinic this weekend.
Ashley Muhle, fundraising manager for the Swift Current SPCA, emphasized the ease and importance of microchipping pets during the discounted clinic scheduled for Saturday.
“We’re combining a barbecue, garage sale, and microchip clinic right here at the shelter,” Muhle explained. “Visitors can enjoy hot dogs, pops, and chips while supporting the shelter through their purchases. Additionally, our garage sale features a variety of items including pet supplies and household goods.”
The microchipping process, which involves a quick and straightforward procedure conducted at the shelter, takes only a few minutes. Once implanted under the animal’s skin, the microchip securely stores the owner’s contact information. This information becomes crucial if a pet is lost and subsequently brought to a shelter or veterinary clinic, where the microchip can be scanned to identify and reunite the pet with its owner.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., welcoming community members to not only take advantage of the clinic but also to explore available items for sale, ask questions, and meet adoptable cats and dogs.
This initiative by the Swift Current SPCA aims to enhance pet safety and facilitate swift reunions between lost pets and their families through the use of microchip technology.
