Pet Helpers, a Charleston-based animal shelter, is extending vital support to local pet owners in need of animal supplies through a new initiative.
In partnership with Chewy and the Humane Society of the United States, which donated 43 pallets of supplies, the shelter is distributing free dog and cat beds to the public.
Officials report a surge in animal surrenders as families struggle to afford essential pet supplies amid rising inflation. This initiative aims to alleviate that burden.
“Our Community Pet Distribution Day is designed to offer crucial support to individuals and families, helping pets stay in their loving homes,” stated a news release from Pet Helpers.
Pet owners can visit the shelter at 1447 Folly Road between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily to receive free pet beds, while supplies last. A valid photo ID is required for the giveaway.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Chewy and the Humane Society of the United States for making events like this possible,” said Melissa Susko, Executive Director at Pet Helpers. “Their generous donations enable us to provide essential resources to our community during these challenging times.”
