In May, Mars commenced production at its new pet food factory in Tianjin, China, according to a report from the Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Area (TEDA). The factory, announced in February 2019, represents a significant investment and technological advancement for Mars.
TEDA described this facility as one of Mars’ largest and most advanced pet food factories, with an investment nearing CN¥ 1 billion (US$138 million) and covering 110,000 square meters. The factory focuses on the research, development, and production of dry food, wet food, and treats. When fully operational, the factory’s annual production capacity is expected to surpass 250,000 tons.
The dry food production line is already active, with the treat production line scheduled to start in the second half of the year. Mars also plans further investments to introduce a wet food production line, which will enhance and upgrade TEDA’s pet industry chain.
In recent years, TEDA’s pet industry has seen rapid growth, attracting major industry players such as Mars, Nestlé, and Ringpai. Tianjin, noted for being the second-largest industrial and commercial city in China and the largest financial and commercial center in North China, continues to be a hub for industrial development.
