The Tuscarawas County Health Department is marking National Pet Preparedness Month this June with a drive-thru event aimed at promoting pet health and safety. Scheduled for Tuesday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30 pm outside their headquarters on East Iron Avenue in Dover, the initiative aims to distribute essential supplies to pet owners.
According to spokesperson Jennifer Demuth, the first 250 vehicles to arrive will receive a complimentary bag containing various pet care items. These include an LED clip-on pet collar light, a pet waste bag dispenser, a tick remover, emergency preparedness materials, a pet care coloring book for children, and an emergency rescue decal for home placement, aiding emergency responders in identifying homes with pets.
Additionally, select bags will feature surprise prizes, and attendees can secure a free vehicle restraint for their pets while supplies last.
“For those bringing their dogs along, we’ll have treats available, with permission, to make their visit more enjoyable,” Demuth added.
In tandem with the giveaway, the health department is facilitating a pet supply drive benefiting the Tuscarawas County Dog Pound and Humane Society. Donations can be dropped off in the lobby during regular business hours throughout June and will also be accepted during Tuesday’s event.
The initiative underscores the department’s commitment to fostering pet safety awareness within the community while supporting local animal welfare organizations.
