Wearing an ID tag and being microchipped can be the key to reuniting with a lost pet, according to CMPD Animal Care and Control. As Fourth of July approaches, known to be the most challenging holiday for pets, the organization emphasizes the importance of these measures to keep pets out of shelters and safe at home.
CMPD Animal Control will host its third annual “Prep Your Pet” event on Saturday, June 29, from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at 8315 Byrum Drive in Charlotte. The event will offer free exams, vaccines, ID tags, and microchips. Additionally, adoption fees will be waived from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the same day.
Statistics from the Michelson Found Animals Foundation highlight the critical nature of this issue, stating that one in three pets will get lost at some point in their lifetime, and 90% will never return home without an ID.
Communications Manager Melissa Knicely underscores the significance of the event in reducing the number of lost pets ending up in shelters. “It’s one day of the year where more pets in the United States go missing due to being scared from fireworks show activities — the fireworks themselves, or just bands, music,” Knicely said.
For pets fearful of fireworks and thunderstorms, Knicely advises allowing them to find comfort in a secure indoor space, such as a closet, to alleviate their anxiety.
Join CMPD Animal Care and Control at the Prep Your Pet event to help ensure the safety and well-being of your furry friends this Fourth of July.
