In honor of National Microchipping Month, the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center has been offering free microchipping services to the community.
Stella Hollingsworth, a local dog owner, emphasizes the importance of microchipping. “My last dog went missing, and I never found her after three years. It’s crucial because now they can be found,” she said.
Hollingsworth’s affection for her current dog, Sophia, is evident. She is determined to ensure Sophia’s safety through microchipping. “I don’t have to worry about her. It’s heartbreaking when you can’t find your pet,” she added.
The Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center has successfully microchipped over 120 pets this month. “This is monumental for us,” said Saylor Knox, the center’s supervisor. “The last thing anyone wants is to bring an animal into the shelter when there’s a loving home out there for them.”
Microchipping provides two major benefits: it helps return pets to their rightful homes and prevents overcrowding in shelters. “As soon as we scan a microchip, the number appears on the screen, allowing us to quickly get the necessary information and return the pet home,” Knox explained.
Pet owners still have the opportunity to take advantage of this free service until the end of the month at the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center. Alternatively, local animal shelters may also offer similar services.
