In preparation for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, the Nine Lives Cat Lounge and Adoption Center in Joplin, Missouri, emphasized the importance of pet safety through a recent microchip clinic. Held on Saturday, the clinic offered pet owners an opportunity to register and microchip their pets for a nominal fee of $20.
Jessi Medeiros, a registered veterinary technician and integral member of the Nine Lives team, highlighted the significance of microchipping, particularly during holidays like the Fourth of July when pets are most likely to go missing. She stressed that microchipping significantly increases the chances of reuniting lost pets with their owners, as the registered information allows shelters and veterinary offices to quickly identify and contact owners.
“Microchipping ensures a substantially higher chance of reuniting with your pet,” Medeiros emphasized. “Without it, the search relies on online postings and word of mouth. However, with a microchip, returning pets to facilities like the humane society or a veterinary office enables swift scanning for registration details, facilitating a quicker reunion.”
Medeiros advised pet owners to keep their pet’s microchip information updated to reflect any changes, underscoring the importance of maintaining current contact details to facilitate prompt reunification in case of separation.
The initiative by Nine Lives underscores a proactive approach to pet safety, ensuring that pets are safeguarded during festive occasions known for heightened pet incidents.
