Cairns dog owners are urged to renew their dog registrations before the upcoming deadline on July 31, 2024, marking the commencement of the 2024/25 registration period. Approximately 25,000 renewal notices have been dispatched to registered dog owners throughout the region.
Registering your dog and ensuring your registration details are current is crucial as it facilitates swift reunification with your pet in case they are lost. The registration fees also play a pivotal role in financing various animal-related services provided by the Council. These services include operating the Animal Care & Education Centre, handling and caring for over 800 stray pets annually, investigating instances of dog attacks and noise complaints, promoting responsible pet ownership through educational initiatives, maintaining dog off-leash areas equipped with waste disposal facilities, and monitoring public spaces.
Special discounts are available for senior citizens, concession card holders, owners of desexed pets, and those whose dogs have completed Level 3 obedience training.
Dog owners are encouraged to act promptly to ensure compliance and continued access to these vital services.
