GRANTS PASS, Ore. – The Rogue Valley Humane Society is urgently calling on the public to cease the abandonment of animals at their facility after hours. This troubling trend is affecting both Jackson and Josephine Counties, where resources and staff are already stretched thin.
“Often, people are leaving litters of very young animals,” explained Jaclyn Morris, the office manager and volunteer coordinator for the Rogue Valley Humane Society. “These are animals we cannot care for at our facility because they require round-the-clock attention.”
Abandoning pets is illegal, and the humane society collaborates with police to identify and prosecute offenders. The recommended approach for those with unwanted or found pets is to contact an open veterinarian or shelter whenever possible.
