Between Monday, July 15, and Friday, July 19, pet owners in the City of Casey can take advantage of significantly reduced pet registration fees, set at a discounted rate of $5. This initiative aims to encourage responsible pet ownership while supporting various community services.
Noelene Duff PSM, Chair of Administrators for Casey, highlighted the multifaceted benefits derived from pet registration fees. These funds contribute to crucial services such as reuniting lost pets with their owners. Additionally, they support educational programs on responsible pet ownership, including outreach initiatives like road shows and community events. The city’s ‘We Are Family’ program at Maternal and Child Health Centres and educational campaigns in schools focusing on animal safety are also funded through these fees.
Currently, Casey boasts approximately 37,000 registered cats and dogs. The standard registration fees for desexed dogs and cats are normally $50 and $25 respectively for pensioners. For pets that have not been desexed, fees are typically higher, with un-desexed dogs costing $222 and $111 for pensioners. Puppies under six months incur fees of $111 or $55.50 for pensioners.
Under local regulations, all cats and dogs over three months old must be registered with the council. Ms. Duff emphasized that these fees are essential for council operations, enabling them to investigate and regulate puppy farms, respond to dog attacks, and take legal action against offending owners.
This limited-time offer not only incentivizes pet registration but also underscores the council’s commitment to enhancing community welfare through responsible pet ownership practices.
