Salt Lake County Animal Services has issued a warning to residents in the SLC Avenues and surrounding areas following multiple reports of deceased pets believed to be victims of wildlife attacks. In a social media post on Saturday, the organization urged pet owners to take precautions due to recent coyote sightings in the area, noting that these animals are known for targeting and killing cats and small dogs.
“We’ve received several reports of pets found deceased, suspected to have fallen prey to wildlife,” the organization stated. They emphasized the importance of keeping pets indoors or on a leash when outdoors to prevent such incidents.
Apart from coyotes, officials also highlighted the potential danger posed by other wildlife species common in Utah, including raccoons, bobcats, cougars, and bears. They advised residents to remain vigilant and to implement necessary measures to safeguard their pets from potential threats.
“Please stay alert and take all necessary precautions to protect your pets,” officials urged.
