The BISSELL Pet Foundation is set to lead its impactful Summer National Empty the Shelters event from July 8 to 31, 2024, spanning more than 390 organizations across four states, including Louisiana.
Founded on the principle of finding loving homes for pets in need, the initiative has facilitated over 253,000 adoptions to date, establishing Empty the Shelters as the country’s largest funded adoption event. During each quarterly national event, an average of 1,225 pets are adopted daily, underscoring its profound impact on animal welfare nationwide.
To support these efforts, the BISSELL Pet Foundation subsidizes adoption fees, enabling shelters to charge $50 or less per adoption. This financial assistance aims to expedite the process of bringing deserving pets out of kennels and into caring homes.
Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation, emphasized the urgency of the upcoming event amidst challenges faced by shelters nationwide. “Shelters are grappling with a range of obstacles, from natural disasters like wildfires and tornadoes to operational strains such as overcrowding and resource shortages,” Bissell stated. “Our Summer National Empty the Shelters event presents a critical opportunity for community members to make a tangible difference through adoption. Every adoption not only saves a life but also creates vital space for another deserving pet.”
Bissell further encouraged community involvement beyond adoption, highlighting the life-saving impact of fostering during times of shelter overflow. “Deserving pets across the country are relying on all of us,” Bissell concluded, urging support from individuals who may not be able to adopt directly.
The Summer National Empty the Shelters event stands as a pivotal moment for animal welfare, rallying communities to join in the mission of providing loving homes to pets in need.
