BISSELL Pet Foundation, a leading national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness, has announced its upcoming Empty the Shelters adoption event from July 8-31, 2024. This initiative aims to encourage pet adoption across the United States, with the Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center joining over 390 shelters in 44 states.
During the event, all dogs and cats at the Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center, located at 410 N Dugas Road, will be available for adoption at no cost. Each animal is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed or neutered, ensuring they are ready for a loving home. Operating hours for the Lafayette shelter are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation, emphasized the critical nature of the event: “Shelters nationwide are facing significant challenges, from natural disasters to overcrowding necessitating difficult decisions. The Summer National Empty the Shelters event provides a crucial opportunity for communities to save lives through adoption. Every adoption not only transforms a pet’s life but also creates space for another animal in need. For those unable to adopt, fostering is another way to make a lifesaving difference.”
Since its inception in 2016, BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters event has become the largest funded adoption drive in the country, resulting in over 253,000 pets finding loving homes. Partnering with 742 animal welfare organizations across 49 states and Canada, the initiative aims to reduce adoption fees and promote responsible pet ownership.
BISSELL Pet Foundation and the Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center encourage prospective adopters to research their chosen pets and familiarize themselves with adoption requirements to ensure a successful match. This initiative underscores the power of community action in addressing pet homelessness nationwide.
