StreetVet, a charity dedicated to providing free veterinary care to pets of homeless individuals, has highlighted Cornwall as one of its busiest locations for outreach. CEO Zoe Abbotts emphasized the high demand for their services throughout the county, with active pop-ups in Redruth, St Austell, Truro, Falmouth, Penzance, and Newquay.
“We’re seeing very high demand in Cornwall,” Abbotts stated, noting recent outreach successes such as attracting three new clients in Redruth just last week. “Cornwall is one of our busiest stations,” she added, underscoring the charity’s widespread impact nationwide.
Martin, a former homeless individual and pet owner, expressed gratitude for StreetVet’s assistance, particularly praising their comprehensive support with medical care, flea treatment, and worming. “They’re just brilliant,” he remarked.
Veterinary nurse and Cornwall volunteer Jane James, with over 20 years of experience, highlighted the critical role pets play in the lives of homeless individuals. “If you’re on the streets, you’re at your most vulnerable,” James explained, emphasizing the importance of providing essential care to these animal companions. “It’s really important,” she affirmed.
StreetVet’s presence in Cornwall continues to provide essential support, ensuring that pets remain healthy and cared for, offering much-needed comfort to their owners during challenging times.
