NEW CUMBERLAND — The Hancock County Animal Shelter is among the 390 organizations across 44 states where the BISSELL Pet Foundation is covering adoption fees throughout July.
Hope Sayre, the shelter’s medical and daily operations manager, shared that the shelter currently has over 100 cats, 22 dogs, and various other pets including a rabbit and a guinea pig.
“We are excited to announce that during this event, we will have waived adoption fees on all our animals as BPF is covering them,” Sayre said.
Potential adopters can visit the shelter from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays to meet their new furry family member. Adoption applications are available at Hancock County Animal Shelter.
The BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization, is dedicated to ending pet homelessness. The non-profit provides affordable and accessible spay and neuter services through veterinarians, vouchers, and community clinics. They also support shelters facing euthanasia.
Founded by the creators of BISSELL, a company known for household cleaning appliances, the foundation has a mission to help pets. Sayre noted that the shelter has not seen the usual influx of kittens, pregnant cats, and dogs following the Fourth of July season.
New pet owners complete an adoption survey for BISSELL as part of the adoption process. The shelter submits the survey to the foundation, which then compensates the shelter for the adoption. The new pet parent pays nothing and receives a fully vetted pet that is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped.
