BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Residents of Houston are still grappling with the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, which has left many animal shelters overwhelmed. In response, Best Friends Pet Resource Center in Bentonville stepped in to assist by taking in animals from Houston on July 13.
Approximately 15 to 20 animals, primarily cats and kittens, along with two puppies, were transported from shelters affected by flooding or power and water outages. Upon arrival, each animal received physical examinations and vaccinations. Lifesaving care employees ensured the pets’ medical records were updated to facilitate their quick placement on the adoption floor.
“These animals were in dire need when the storm struck,” said Supervisor Haley Volker. “We’re fortunate to provide a safe haven for them.”
Volker emphasized the importance of community support, especially following recent tornadoes in the Bentonville area. “Taking in these animals from Houston enables their shelters to better serve their local community,” she added.
