Baton Rouge, LA — The Companion Animal Alliance (CAA) in Baton Rouge recently concluded a week-long initiative offering free adoptions for shelter animals, in collaboration with the Bissell Pet Foundation’s “Empty The Shelter” campaign. The event aimed to encourage the adoption of spayed and neutered pets, with Sunday marking the final day for fee waivers.
Heidi Wetherbee, a spokesperson for CAA, emphasized the importance of finding permanent homes for shelter animals. She highlighted that fostering is also a valuable option for those unable to adopt permanently.
“We’re fortunate to have dedicated fosters across the parish of Baton Rouge who open their homes to our dogs, sometimes for just a few weeks or longer,” Wetherbee explained.
Wetherbee also noted that CAA welcomes volunteers and remains committed to reducing the number of stray dogs on the streets.
“By bringing dogs into shelters, finding them homes, and facilitating adoptions, we contribute significantly to controlling the feral dog population,” she affirmed.
