PetRescue, a prominent Australian pet adoption charity, has unveiled a detailed report analyzing the current state of pet adoption across the country.
In its second edition, the State of Pet Adoption Report for 2022-2023 offers critical insights into the trends, challenges, and findings within the pet adoption landscape. This comprehensive analysis incorporates data from rescue groups, shelters, veterinarians, councils, and the broader animal welfare and management community.
Patima Tantiprasut, Managing Director and CEO at PetRescue, emphasized the report’s importance in shaping a future where every pet is safe, respected, and cherished.
“This report not only highlights where we need to focus our efforts but also provides an inside look into the hidden world of rescue, providing us with the opportunity to transform into a sector that cares for the wellbeing of all pets, and also people, involved,” Tantiprasut stated.
Among the report’s key findings, it was noted that pet adoption numbers in Australia have shown strong performance. All types of groups, including councils, shelters, and vets, saw at least a 45% increase in pet adoptions, with the exception of rescue groups.
Additionally, the report highlighted the significant and elevated levels of work-related and personal stress experienced by participants during the 2022-2023 financial year. Despite these challenges, nearly 70% of participants expressed general satisfaction with their work, many reporting a sense of compassion satisfaction.
