On Thursday, July 18, the Houston Humane Society descended upon Cleveland to deliver vital pet care services, offering free vaccinations, kibble, and a six-month supply of flea medication to hundreds of pets. The generous event took place at The Sanctuary Church, which graciously provided the venue.
The Pct. 6 Constable’s Office co-hosted the event, with Constable Zack Harkness and his deputies on hand to manage traffic and engage with local residents. Due to overwhelming demand, the event’s hours were extended by three, highlighting the community’s need for these essential services.
Sponsored by Petco Love and Greater Good Charities, the initiative attracted a significant turnout. Early arrivals ensured the church parking lot was at full capacity by 9 a.m., with vehicles stretching around the block. The substantial turnout underscored the high demand for support.
Beyond vaccinations, the event offered pets a six-month supply of flea medication, addressing needs exacerbated by Hurricane Beryl and other recent weather-related challenges. The clinic was open to all, without income-based restrictions, ensuring broad accessibility.
Community feedback was overwhelmingly positive. “Everyone who waited in line received pet food. While we did run out of vaccines, we managed to vaccinate at least 110 dogs and 50 cats,” noted Constable Harkness. He added, “This was our third event and our second focused on vaccinations. I plan to coordinate with the Houston Humane Society to organize another clinic in Cleveland soon.”
