Every now and then we see a dog owner throwing a bottle of mineral water or a small ball onto the lawn across the street.
After the thrown object falls to the ground, the dog next to him will run to the opposite lawn for the first time, gently bite the thrown object on his mouth, and then run back to his owner.
Which makes you wonder, why would a dog help its owner retrieve something?
In fact, most dogs can acquire this skill with scientific training.
So how do you train a dog to retrieve something?
1. Get Some Props If you want your dog to learn how to pick up objects, you need to train him when he’s about a year old.
You need a tow rope, and then a mineral water bottle or ball.
Also have some treats for your dog to eat.
The dog is then taken out onto a wide lawn for training.
The best place to train is in a less crowded area, so the dog can let down his guard and accept the training.
2. Carefully train the dog step by step to bite the bottle or ball. If the dog does not understand the action, the owner will put the bottle or ball into the dog’s mouth, then touch the dog’s head, praise it is really good, then remove the bottle, and then feed the dog the snack.
Then he throws the bottle of mineral water about a metre away for the dog to retrieve.
If the dog does not accept the arrangement, put the dog on a lead and let him grab the bottle.
Then pull the lead rope and pull the dog to your side.
Remove the bottle, feed the treat, and then praise the dog.
Then the bottle is thrown three meters away, and the dog grabs it. The dog is pulled back to the bottle, and the training is repeated, each time the bottle is thrown farther and farther.
If the dog is obedient, it soon learns to retrieve the bottle.
Then he takes off the leash and drops the bottle. Ten or twenty meters away, the dog realizes that he is being asked to retrieve the bottle.
I’m gonna run and get it.
3 simple password must be in the training of the dog, remember to call its name, such as niuniu really obedient, Tangyuan really cute and so on.
Praise is preceded by the dog’s name so that Libby understands.
Then “come back”, “pick up”, “put down” and other simple commands, in coordination with the action, must be accustomed to practice.
How can a dog be trained to retrieve?
When the dog finishes the action, don’t forget to give the dog something to eat, not too much at a time, just the right amount.
Food becomes less tempting to a dog when he is too full.
