MetLife Pet Insurance has launched the Golden Beagle Award, designed to honor animal welfare organizations that demonstrate innovative solutions in finding homes for larger dogs. The award includes a $20,000 grant to support the recipient’s ongoing efforts. This initiative is a part of MetLife Pet Insurance’s partnership with The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement (AAWA), a network of leaders dedicated to enhancing the animal welfare profession.
“At MetLife Pet Insurance, our mission is to help pets find and remain in the right homes, and we are proud to present the Golden Beagle Award as part of this commitment,” said Brian Jorgensen, Head of Pet Insurance at MetLife. “We are inspired by the dedication and creativity of animal welfare organizations that are developing new methods to overcome the challenges larger dogs face in finding loving homes. We are excited to collaborate with AAWA to highlight and support these organizations and their life-saving missions.”
The inaugural Golden Beagle Award will be presented at the AAWA conference in November 2024.
“AAWA is excited to partner with MetLife Pet Insurance on this award, which will showcase the innovative and compassionate work of our members and the broader animal welfare community,” said Jim Tedford, President and CEO of AAWA. “Larger dogs often experience longer shelter stays and lower adoption rates compared to smaller dogs, which can impact their physical and mental well-being. We look forward to seeing the creative solutions our members will present to address this issue and help these dogs find the homes they deserve.”
Beyond the Golden Beagle Award, MetLife Pet Insurance and AAWA collaborate on producing content that addresses challenges pet owners face regarding access to veterinary care, including financial and geographical barriers. This content, which includes podcasts, blog posts, newsletters, and other resources, aims to assist animal welfare organizations and pet owners in navigating access to care and learning about potential solutions and best practices.
